He is also founder and editor of PensionTsunami.com — a daily news aggregation website which he launched in 2004 to monitor the growing public pension crisis.
He is currently vice president of two pension reform groups — the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility (CFFR) — an educational organization launched in 2006 by the late California Assemblyman Keith Richman to work on the pension issue on a statewide basis, and a political group called California Pension Reform whose goal is to put a pension reform measure on a future statewide ballot. He is also an advisor to the California Policy Center.
After earning a B.A. in Journalism & English at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, Dean began his multi-phased career as a weekly newspaper editor in a small town in northern Connecticut. He has also worked in public relations, advertising, marketing, non-profit fundraising and political consulting. A former executive director of the Reason Foundation, he served as Senior Adviser to both presidential campaigns of Libertarian candidate Harry Browne in 1996 and 2000.
In 2013 he was named California’s Taxfighter of the Year by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
