State parties pour millions into 65th Assembly District race

By Thy Vo, Voice of OC | Both the California Democratic and Republican parties are spending heavily with hopes of influencing Tuesday’s outcome in the 65th Assembly district race between first-term Democratic incumbent Sharon Quirk-Silva and her Republican opponent Young Kim.

Kim, a former long-time aide to Rep. Ed Royce (R-47), won the primary in June with nearly 55 percent of the vote, a ten-point lead on Quirk-Silva, whose upset victory over Chris Norby in 2012 shocked many who considered the district a safe Republican stronghold.

With the fate of their supermajority in the Assembly on the line, state Democrats are pulling out all the stops.
